CHALLENGE

Getswitches approached us with the requirement to digitally represent their premium switch plates and modules with a level of realism that closely matches the physical products. Accurate finishes and material behavior were essential to help customers confidently choose high-end options online and minimize returns. The configurator needed to support extensive customization, including plate sizes, finishes, interchangeable modules, and engravings, while maintaining a clean and intuitive user experience. Alongside this, the entire solution had to integrate seamlessly with Shopify, delivering a production-ready ecommerce experience without compromising performance or visual quality.

WHAT WE DID

A Robust Configurator Built for Deep Customization

We designed and developed a highly flexible product configurator that supports a wide range of customization options without compromising usability. Users can choose from multiple plate sizes, select unique premium finishes for both plates and modules, customize individual modules such as switches, dimmers, and toggles, and add engravings per module. Despite the depth of customization, the experience remains intuitive and easy to understand, allowing customers to build complex configurations with confidence.

True-to-Life Materials Crafted for Premium Finishes

To achieve a level of realism suitable for premium products, we worked closely with the Getswitches team to ensure every plate and control finish matched its real-world counterpart. Using detailed image and video references of physical plates, we studied how different materials behave under varying lighting conditions, including reflections, brushing patterns, surface depth, and wear characteristics. Based on these observations, we created custom PBR texture maps for each finish, including brushed and aged brass variants, stainless steel, hammered finishes, and minimalist black and white options. A custom UV system built in WebGL allows these materials to adapt dynamically across different plate sizes without stretching or distortion, preserving texture integrity at all scales. Carefully calibrated lighting was then used to accurately present both plates and modules, ensuring the final on-screen result feels as close to the real product as possible.

Modular Customization with Intelligent Controls and Engravings

We built a highly modular customization system where each module type serves a distinct purpose and behaves exactly as expected in real-world use. Users can choose from a wide range of modules including dimmers, toggles, fan controls, outlets, USB outlets, and blank plates, each with its own functionality, constraints, and visual characteristics. Contextual tooltips guide users by clearly explaining how each module works, wiring behavior, and use cases, making complex electrical choices easy to understand. To further enhance confidence, modules can be viewed from both the front and the back, allowing users to see how the assembled plate looks beyond just the surface. The system also supports per-module engravings, enabling highly personalized configurations while maintaining clarity, consistency, and a refined user experience.

Production-Ready Pricing with Seamless Shopify Integration

We built a fully modular pricing system that mirrors the complexity of the product itself. Pricing is calculated dynamically based on multiple factors, including plate size, selected finishes, individual module types, and engravings, each contributing independently to the final cost. Standard finishes retain base pricing, while premium finishes add to the total, and every module and engraving is accounted for separately. As users customize their configuration, pricing updates instantly in real time, providing complete transparency and eliminating guesswork. To bring this experience into a real ecommerce environment, we worked with custom Shopify apps to implement the pricing logic according to the client’s requirements. This ensures the configurator integrates seamlessly into the Shopify ecosystem, making the entire experience feel like a native part of the store rather than an external tool.

The final configurator transformed Getswitches premium product lineup into an intuitive and reliable online experience. Customers can accurately visualize finishes, understand module functionality, and see transparent pricing as they build their configuration.
